If you have a missing tooth and are looking for a long term solution, then a dental implant could be right for you, you're not alone as 54% of adults in the UK have a missing tooth.

The dental implant is placed directly into your jawbone, it is a titanium screen that replaces the missing tooth root.  After fitting, the surrounding bone will gradually fuse to it, holding it into place, thus it is a fairly permanent treatment.  A false tooth, ie a Crown or a Denture is then fitted to the top of the implant, providing a natural looking tooth.

It is possible to have multiple implants, you may also need a bridge to support the teeth.

If you aren't sure that dental implants are right for you, you can also consider dentures or a bridge.  Your dentist is here to advise you on the best course of action.  With dental insurance in place, the cost of the treatment becomes less of an issue when choosing the right dental treatment.

Dental implants are available to all healthy adults.  They aren't suitable for under 18s where bones are still growing.  Also consider that if you are a smoker, have diabetes or gum disease this treatment may not be available to you.

How are Dental Implants Fitted?

Dental implants are usually fitted during two separate procedures; the first being to fit the implant itself into your jawbone, and then the second a few months later to fit the new tooth onto the implant.
